The materials of the KoKoTé bags

Our planet's resources are valuable, which is why KoKoTé uses ecological materials in production.

ECONYL®

Polyamide, the basis of ECONYL® , is a synthetic nylon fiber obtained from crude oil or renewable vegetable oils. It is characterized by exceptional strength and versatility. Polyamide is not degradable and microplastics are released through use, washing and abrasion.

Polyamide offers the possibility of recycling. Both pre-consumer and post-consumer waste, such as fishing nets or leftovers from carpet production, can be processed into “new” nylon using a sustainable approach. This reduces the need for fossil raw materials and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

Unfortunately, nylon recycling processes, whether chemical or mechanical, are not without their drawbacks. Chemical recycling requires the use of hazardous chemicals, while mechanical recycling involves high water consumption. An innovative approach is the chemical recycling of ECONYL®, in which the positive properties of nylon are retained despite multiple recycling cycles.

ECONYL® has significantly lower CO2 emissions compared to traditional nylon production. The complete transparency of ECONYL®'s supply chain also sets it apart from other ecological materials. Fashion for Good confirms the exemplary collection of materials and the responsible production of the raw material. For KoKoTé, ECONYL® appears to be a suitable and sustainable functional material for producing high-quality products. Despite the synthetic nature of ECONYL®, the impact on microplastics is lower because the structure consists of long, continuous filaments.

Bonded leather

No other material comes as close to real leather in terms of quality and appearance as bonded leather. Bonded Leather consists of over 90% renewable raw materials.

Vegetable-tanned leather residues from leather production, as well as chrome shavings, are ground and bound with the help of natural latex and fattening agents. After adding water, the pulp is dewatered on special fourdrinier machines. Through a production process that is similar to paper production, followed by drying, calendering and a special surface treatment, a continuous product is created that is available in different thicknesses and qualities.

In contrast to leather, the carbon footprint of bonded leather is lower and is very sustainable thanks to the recycling of leftovers. The material is easy to clean and resembles real leather in look, feel and smell. It is also very robust and completely water-repellent.

Bonded Leather is processed exclusively by KoKoTé in Switzerland.

Everything about bonded leather

We are proud that our products can bear the SWISS LABEL and that their Swiss value share is over 70%.

Other components of our products: webbing, buckle, etc.

Our unmistakable red-black or black webbing is woven in Switzerland. We use a cotton and a polypropylene version. The cotton is refined in Portugal and the polypropylene is made in Europe.

The cords are made from polypropylene, which comes from European production.

The plastic elements used by KoKoTé for the Globi products such as buckles, single adjusters and double adjusters as well as snap fasteners are made from over 85% recycled plastic.
